About Dr. Mechanic

Harvard-Trained. Board Certified. Practicing with a Limited Panel

Dr. Oren Mechanic trained at Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where he later served as Director of Telehealth and Medical Director of Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians. He was also core faculty at Harvard Medical School, teaching clinical skills.

Today, he practices concierge medicine in Miami Beach at The Agatston Center — where a small patient panels mean he knows his patients well, implements a personalized plan, and has the time to think carefully about each patient.

"In a world of desired longevity, evidence-based screening and treatment is still most important — paired with a physician who has the time and curiosity to actually apply it."

His focus is cardiometabolic health, advanced lipid assessment, preventive care, and longevity medicine — backed by formal public health training at The Dartmouth Institute, nutrition at UNC School of Public Health, and a track record of published work and national media appearances.

What concierge medicine with Dr. Mechanic actually means.

Most concierge practices offer access. Dr. Mechanic's practice offers access plus the scientific rigor, prevention expertise, and genuine intellectual curiosity that most primary care offices simply don’t have the time to implement.

06

AI-Augmented Technology

Among the first concierge physicians to thoughtfully integrate AI diagnostic tools, bringing the analytical capabilities of academic medicine to every encounter.

In partnership with Dr. Arthur Agatston.

Dr. Mechanic practices alongside preventive cardiology's most recognized name — the physician who developed the calcium score (‘Agatston score’) and authored the South Beach Diet.

The Agatston Center represents a rare convergence: the scientific legacy of one of cardiology's most impactful careers, combined with the academic rigor of active research and investigation, benefiting their patients.

Clinical Philosophy

The Cardiometabolic
Prevention Model

Past annual physicals and cholesterol checks, Dr. Mechanic and his team's approach goes several layers deeper — identifying subclinical risk factors, using advanced AI-enabled imaging, some which is only accessible to The Agatston Center.

ApoB & Advanced Lipid Assessment

Standard LDL cholesterol is important, but it can miss a significant portion of cardiovascular risk. ApoB directly measures the number of atherogenic particles in your blood — a far more precise predictor of future heart disease. Every patient receives a complete advanced lipid panel.

Why it matters: Two patients with identical LDL can have dramatically different ApoB levels — and dramatically different risk profiles.

Coronary Calcium Scoring with layered AI

Developed by Dr. Mechanic's partner, Dr. Arthur Agatston, the coronary calcium score is one of the most powerful tools in preventive cardiology — identifying plaque buildup in coronary arteries before symptoms appear. Combined with AI-powered CT analysis (“Agatston 2.0”), this is cardiovascular risk assessment at its most sophisticated.

Why it matters: A calcium score of zero in a 55-year-old dramatically changes the risk/benefit calculation for statin therapy. Many patients never receive this test.

Insulin Resistance & Metabolic Health

Insulin resistance precedes type 2 diabetes by a decade or more — and drives cardiovascular disease, cognitive decline, and accelerated aging. Fasting glucose alone is a crude and late measure. Dr. Mechanic assesses the full metabolic picture, often using advanced techniques when needed, such as a Kraft test.

Why it matters: Insulin resistance precedes abnormal HbA1c or fasting glucose levels.

Early Atherosclerosis Detection

Atherosclerosis — the buildup of plaque in arterial walls — can begin in the 30s and 40s. By the time symptoms appear, the disease can be advanced. Techniques such as carotid ultrasound and advanced modalities can identify and addresses atherosclerosis at an earlier stage.

Why it matters: Lp(a) — a genetically determined cardiovascular risk factor — is present in 20% of the population.

This is not the medicine of annual physicals and prescriptions. It is precision prevention and thoughtful care.

Healthtech Leadership

Your doctor evaluates every health technologoy — because he helped build some of them.

Dr. Mechanic occupies a rare intersection: active clinician, published researcher, and healthtech operator. When new health technologies emerge — AI diagnostics, wearables, telehealth platforms, at-home testing — he evaluates them not as an observer, but as someone who has built and scaled them at the national level.

His patients benefit from this directly. No chasing trends. No unproven tools. Only technologies that have earned their place in a rigorous clinical framework.

National Recognition

eMed — Presidential COVID-19 Response

As Chief Medical Officer, helped lead a virtual test-to-treat platform recognized by President Biden as a key component of the national COVID-19 response strategy.

Scale

500,000+ Virtual Visits

Co-founded and served as Chief Medical Officer of the BIDMC On-Demand telehealth platform at Harvard's Beth Israel Deaconess — one of the largest virtual care programs in academic medicine.

Advisory Work

Venture and Startups

Evaluating and advising the next generation of health innovation from the perspective of a practicing clinician.

Academic Authority

30+ publications.
2,088 citations.
